Scope of Practice for EMS clinicians is determined at the state level. While there is a National Scope of Practice Model at the national level, each state’s Office of EMS is ultimately responsible for the clinician’s scope of practice in their state. As of September 18, 2024, this is the status of those states which allow EMS clinicians (at the paramedic level) to initiate blood transfusions in the field. We will update this map as additional states modify their state scope of practice.
